What Happens to CAPA?
CAPA 9-12
CAPA is performance based, so we believe there is substantial reason to maintain an application based admission process - but only at the high school level. CAPA 9-12 remains in its current location and utilizes a magnet application process, while CAPA 6-8 changes location. By moving the middle school out of the current building, the high school can expand to accept more applicants and better utilize its specialized facilities.
CAPA 6-8
We relocate CAPA 6-8 to the current Arsenal middle school. Splitting the 6-8 school from the 9-12 school allows for a far greater number of students who can benefit from this program. Removing the magnet application process and making 6-8 available to the entire city to rank with their other 6-8 options expands access to CAPA, and allows many more kids that don’t have the economic resources for private lessons etc to develop the skills to eventually achieve admission to CAPA 9-12. 6-8 grade students don’t need the specialized setup that our current CAPA facility has, they need accessible opportunities to learn and grow their skills so that they can then be accepted to CAPA 9-12.
