Regional Community Hubs

Our model utilizes one school building in each of our 5 elementary school regions as a Community Hub. This building will serve as a point place where school district, community, and student needs are being met through a variety of services - including before and after school care, transportation, professional development, extracurricular enrichment, and much, much more.

Each regional community can and will decide the way in which their Community Hub is best utilized. Probable uses for these hubs include:

  • Professional development spaces for our teachers and para professionals

  • Before and after-school care

  • Nutrition assistance

  • Transportation facilitation points where students can be picked up by bus to get to and from their school. See our Transportation plan for details.

  • Resource sharing with community partners, non profits, businesses, etc

  • Enriched after school programming

  • Extracurricular offerings such as athletics, choir, band, art, etc.

  • Partnerships with City and County government outreach programs

  • Place for the community and neighborhood to convene

The community is largely involved in dictating how these spaces are used to best meet the needs of the neighborhood and region. The hub becomes a living space that reflects the needs and wants of the community, creating a safe space for the district to interface with the community in each region.

Also, by retaining control of these buildings, we keep our options open to expand our schooling into these buildings if we’re growing and need more space. We talk about this a bit more in our Closed Buildings Uses page.
